Rotted Trim Repair and Azek Replacement on Cape Cod
Rotted trim replaced with Azek, then primed and painted by the Hyannis Painting team.
Fix the wood first, then paint
Rotted wood is one of the main reasons paint peels on Cape Cod homes. Since 2002, Hyannis Painting has replaced rotted trim, soffit and fascia and repaired sheet rock as part of the paint job, so the new finish goes on a solid surface.

Why we replace old shingles instead of just painting them
From the street, a painted shingle can look fine. Turn it over and you see a different story. Old wood shingles soak up water from rain, snow and salt air, and that moisture stays trapped in the wood. Paint over it and the moisture pushes the paint right off, so peeling comes back fast.
Painting over old shingles can work for a while, but it only buys time. Sooner or later the rotted wood has to come out, and the new paint goes to waste. After 24+ years painting Cape Cod homes, we show you what we find and help you choose the right fix.

Light carpentry questions
What is Azek?
Azek is a PVC trim board. It is not wood, so it does not rot the way wood trim does, and it takes primer and paint for a clean finish.
Do you replace rotted wood? *
Yes. We replace rotted trim, soffit and fascia as part of your project. Roberto will show you what needs replacing during your free estimate.
* Replacement is included when it is specified in the contract and the contract is signed and/or paid.
Does the new trim need to be painted?
Yes. Every repair gets primer and paint so it matches the look of your home and is protected.
How do I know if my trim is rotted?
Look for wood that feels soft when you press it, paint that keeps peeling in the same spot, or dark stains and gaps at the joints. Roberto checks every board during your free estimate.
